The Grand Opening Weekend of the Wills Creek Museum is now in the books. I now am trying to make sense of an amazing three days of community. It was a weekend of turning to one another to celebrate our life in the Cumberland community—through food, history, relationship, and song. Most of the events took place at the Wills Creek Museum as we opened the ground floor exhibits and tour center to the public. But the weekend wasn't just about the Wills Creek Museum. The Community Cafe catered the events but it wasn't just about the Community Cafe. The Cumberland Choral Society sang two concerts of Dan Forrest's "Requiem for the Living," but it wasn't just about a choral concert. The weekend involved church communities and the Washington Street Community but the range of folks that attended the events over the weekend was broader than that. When we dedicated the garden benches in the Memorial Garden at Emmanuel Parish, we heard the stories of the Hughes and Page families. These stories were filled with both tragedy and resilience. It was a weekend of both/and! It was a weekend when we went beyond our walls and embraced the mysterious wonder of Cumberland together. In my May podcasts as well as my May blogs, I'll be reflecting on this weekend and all the people that made it amazing. Join me this week as David Cook reflects on his time with us in community and listen to my initials thoughts here, about why we all yearn for these kind of events.
