In Western Maryland, the month of January this year has had three snowstorms....and our daily schedules have been upended. While everyone loves a good snow day, too many snow days make us edgy. When can we get back to our regular routine?
In South Africa, I learned a good deal about my American need for schedules and control. While British and Africaans communities in South Africa have much the same concept of schedules and time, many other South African communities and cultures have a more relational concept of schedule. While there, I was brought to this realization again and again that I was enslaved by my own concept of time and schedules.
These last few weeks, I have been thinking about how I might need to revisit the South Africa sense of schedules and time. Check out my new podcast here for my pondering on how we can get bent out of shape when our schedules are upended.
